Elden ring is copy and pasted combat from dark souls 3. Yeah some moves are different but back stabs and front stabs have the same animations. I love Elden ring's atmosphere and characters and level design but 140 hours in and the combat just feels dated. since backstep has no i-frames is it bad or just situational? many enemies will stay locked onto you if you try to dodge an attack too early therefore using the back step in these situation makes no sense and in other situations i can think of i dont see how a simple roll isn't better or if you want retaliation just counter attack after blocking.

Even without a ton of iframes it's good in some situations. It's OP as fuck against greatsword Forlorn. She has so many itty bitty swing attacks, you can backstep out of the way of almost anything she does, wait a split second to see if the combo is done, then punish with the backstep-running attack.
