Aug 27, 2005 · Great resource. I have an '86 JD 318. It is the "old style" Onan. I changed out the choke cable the other evening and after finishing, tried to start it. The choke works fine, but it acted like there was no spark. I bought a spark tester, the kind that allows you to hook it up to the plug wire and ground the other end. John Deere 316, 318, 420 plug wires for Onan P216, P218, P220, P224. 90 degree coil boots (push style). These are not oem onan. Built with MADE in the USA SOLID copper core ignition wire. Serial number of the tractor is C314L 19146LM. Took the points off and cleaned them. They were a little pitted so I filed them down to take the pitting out. Regapped them a little under .020".
