Build your farm plot and layout the grid. Navigate to your crafting menu, select building, select farming, and then select field. Then you will see a green post to place your field. Then walk away to make a grid. I recommend starting with a 6×6 grid or bigger but you can make it as small or as big as you want.

Firewood counts more for the "wood" demand than logs. Put workers in the barn as Farmer and Field Worker. Field workers do not require any skills (not even farming skill) but Farmers do. Make sure you have farm fields built, appropriate seeds, and plenty of fertilizer. If there is free space in Storage buildings, you don´t need to howl the wood or food to storage, just don´t oversupply your storage. This is easy to overlook and you need to do it for all of your workers, so they know what to gather or craft for you. The logs you see in the woodshed merely are decoration. Once every winter i fill my food and water meter, go to the storage, take 250 logs out from storage, produce all by myself 1000 firewood, take a pause from the game for a couple of minutes. Go back after a while. Put back in the storage 1000 firewood. Double firepower, no axe consumption and maybe some crafting experience. All problem solved.
