It is very likely the receiver in the hub thats bent from misalignment, this will have to be fixed to make the speedo cable spin. A quick check is to remove the cable from the hub and spin with your fingers while looking for movement on the speedo needle. If it moves, your problem is in the hub. If it dont move, it may be you cable.Check for oil around the spark plug cavity and then explore this further. On the 1500, the service manul says a special tool is need to pull the spark plug tubes, but you can fashion a tool out of the rear axle nut and unscrew the tube. I'd bet the 800 is similar. I fill the oil filter full, roll it in my hands, tipping it sideways as I do this while the oil is absorbed into the filter element, then fill it again about 2/3 of the way. To quiet down the final drive I changed to synthetic gear oil (Valvoline 75-115), it makes one big difference. The only maintenance required on the shaft is the rear spline lubrication with moly60 lube, easy to do and not often. Leave about a 1/3 of the chrome cover uncut. Some of us have discovered that the stock air box lets in too much air when the cover is cut all the way around. At high speeds it will cause a lean mixture and begin to surge. To eliminate the surge simply rotate the uncut section of the cover towards the front.
