The majestic colonial is the sister resort of the majestic elegance and is right next door. The grounds layout is almost the same. The advantage that the colonial has is that it is a few years old and has had all opening glitches resolved and the landscaping has 2 years of growth. My preference is---MAJESTIC all the way.My wife and I prefer the Elegance as it is more for couples and not for kids. The colonial has more families. We've stayed at Colonial twice, Elegance twice & Mirage once. We've also stayed at the Barcelo Beach Palace once. Totally different experiences. The Barcelo is a mega resort but the ocean seems calmer at the end of the beach.Dreams is all family. Elegance has family and AO sections. At Dreams, depending on the category booked you could be in a building closest to the ocean. At Elegance, only the AOs are next to the ocean. Family buildings are further in. But at either, even from the lobby it's no more than a 5 minute walk to the beach.I believe the Majestic Colonial would be more upscale than the Iberostar Dominicana. The Iberostar Bavaro would probably be more of an equivalent to the MC - love the IB -going back in two weeks and would certainly be a good choice but have heard good things about the MC as well. Having stayed at the Royalton and walked along the beach at the Majestic (next door), the Royalton wins hands down. The beach at the Majestic is right along a curve in the shoreline and is heavily eroded.

Was at the Colonial in Mar. 2023. Beautiful place. Food was great. Staff amazing. Clean. Beach was excellent with very little sargassum. It was busy with the Spring Breakers but that negative was all about timing. Overall I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the Majestic resorts. Stayed in the Colonial Club. Room directly on the beach.
