I would not "de-rig" the 1987 off the boat as the 77 uses a different wiring harness and trim system. The overall displacements of the 2 engines are different. The 135 is a 2 liter engine, the 175 is a 2.5 liter engine. The 2 engines share the same crankshaft, but a different block all together. Re: Mercury Black Max 150 XR2 Running Rough! My best guess is the high speed charge coil in the stator. It looks like it's getting fuel, but not firing above a certain RPM. A stuck float needle won't let it idle. A leaking float needle won't let it idle. A leaking float needle won't be noticed at high speed. They basically stand open at WOT anyway.

Jan 24, 2017 · i have 1986 mercury black max xr2 150 on my fishing boat. when the motor is cold i have fire on 1,2, but no fire on 3,4,5,6.take a blow dryer and warm motor up some and u will get fire on 3,4,5,6 and motor will start,and as long as u keep the motor warm by starting every so often the motor will start and run great.if u let motor get cold and no fire on 3,4,5,6 and motor will not start.
