For $350 you can pick up another Ithaca 37 Field with a different choke. I really like the 26" IC for grouse. Depends on what you plan to use the gun for but another option is to open it up to ~.008-.012 and call it done. The older I get the less I like choke tubes, have boxes of them around here. I have a 1977 model 37 Ithaca ducks unlimited 12 ga. 2 and 3/4 inch with a 30 in. full choke barrel. I would like to use a shorter barrel with IC for duck hunting. should i get a gunsmith to cut barrel and put in changeable chokes, or purchase a new or used barrel. From what ive read, not all model 37 barrels will fit this gun, is this correct?

Redfield made one specifically for the 37 Ithica #551001, which was designed to deal with the recoil. Sadly they are no longer marketed, and used ones are far and few between. I believe Ithica used this mount as a factory option at one time on the Deerslayer. I had some heavy duty 11mm airgun scope rings that fit. It worked out pretty good.
