The OEM one isn't going to work anymore due to the motor etc being out of it. You will need to provide the fuel pump relay with another source of switched power, as the Jeep ECM is not providing one now. A wire from a hot wire will work fine to switch the relay over. If you want to figure out if it is the sender or the gauge (not likely the gauge) you could measure the resistance at the connector with a full tank of gas and compare it to the resistance with an empty one.
