Mijas is typically Spanish and probably what you are looking for, but is in the hills, and may not be suitable for a poor walker. Fuengirola / Los Boliches is flat but a vast area. If you get one of the Hotels mentioned plus Hotel Angela maybe, you will be fine for walking, but not the same feel of Spain maybe.
