They will provide you with a new cord for free. Do you know where the closest service center is to you? I'm guessing the small version X1 box just doesn't have dvr in it but still comes with a price difference. X1 and legacy don't have a price difference, but if you already have x1, then yes you'll need an XiD (small x1 box). DTA's are $5.99 in most areas, and all other boxes are $9.99 with the exclusion of DVRs.
