Lilith's a very flexible character, with many different playstyles available. I found that the BL1 classmods offered a lot more guidance for builds than the classmods of BL2. Take your classmod and structure your build around its effects and buffs. One of my last Liliths was a Tempest who limited herself to Eridian weapons.

The great news is Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary DLC is more of the funny, loot-happy Borderlands 2 we know and love. It's a lot of fun and a novel way build anticipation for the sequel.

Running an smg and focusing on her elemental tree is a good way to go OP later in the game. Her phase shifting is also a lot of fun, and works as a great "oh shit!" skill in combat. Lilith is all around good, and places more emphasis on the elemental system than the other characters. That said, you also have phasewalk and SMGs if you want to go in a different direction.
