Best LBG not considering elements is most likely going to be the Narga LBG. It outclasses the Barroth one when fully upgraded. Not only does it have awesome raw but it has a 2 slot deco and like 40% affinity naturally. Personally I've been trying my damndest to make a Shrapnel build that can match the damage of Pierce but I can't quite get there.

You also need to take into account that the monster moves as you rapid fire, thus leading to shots missed it landed on shitzones. This is why pierce elemental has an edge over rapid fire pierce elemental. You are ignoring fire rate, you can shoot S3 more quickly than RF S2 afaik you need rapid fire to level 3 along spread 3 to make RF2 roughly ...
Pierce 1 ammo economy is awful. Grab Jyuratodus LBG (in 5*) or go all in on Nargacuga (6*). Jyura is probably easier to make since you don't have to grind out narga marrow/medulla, assuming you're cool with RF Spread 2 (honestly pretty fun now that the recoil on it isn't stupid). Pierce 1, 2 & 3 - multiple hits on all parts it passes through. Always have some with you. Make great damage by aiming head→tail, tail→head or wing→wing. Pierce 1 is good for small monsters and sniping parts (heads for example). Use on anything smaller than a Rath. Pierce 2 is good for medium and big monsters.
The light bowgun can use 2 parts. to improve the gun's performance. The Long Barrel is usually a must-have as it increases the base attack power of the gun. However, the Silencer reduces the recoil by 1 level so equip the Silencer if you want more control.

Rpf pierce 2 all day. The MV's of p1 and p2 are the same, 7. Thats true. However, p2 has a higher tick rate, meaning it'll get more damage ticks in as opposed to pierce 1. Even if that wasn't the case, pierce 2 has way better ammo economy than pierce 1 since pierce 1 is 1 to 1 with latchberries while pierce 2 is 4 to 1 with pierce 1 for crafting.
