VXUS is beneficial for getting people to dip their toe into international waters while still having the same simplicity of holding the whole ex-US market in one fund, the same way VTI does. It also doesn't involve making inheret bets on certain countries or groupings as it's holding them at market weight.The difference in performance has been huge over that period (1986-2022). The CAGR for US has been 10.14%, and for ex-US it has been 5.36%. This means that $10,000 grew to $326,699 with US, and $65,696 with ex-US over that period. That's a big chasm, not a big shrug.Schwab U.S. Small-Cap ETF (SCHA) The iShares one is the extremely liquid one, ideal for both buy-and-hold and for trading.
