Check voltage at the connector for the front actuator (at the front differential - it looks like a large bullet that threads into the front diff.) If it has 12 volts, the actuator is the problem. If it does not have 12 volts, check the transfer case switch and the power feed to the transfer case.Mar 5, 2011 · Gently tap the actuator housing with a rubber mallet and see if that gets it to work. If so, remove the housing, clean well (a light sanding of the contacts, depending on corrosion, might help), apply a light coat of dielectric grease, and reinstall. Because the AWD/4WD Ecu is getting signals that do not correspond to the position of the Actuators. You have 2 electronic actuators. One in the front diff which engages the passenger axle with the front diff and one in the transfer case. It engages the 4wd and further locks the center diff.
Keep in mind that the 4wd functions perfectly until this happens, It’s totally random, and totally intermittent. Usually will clear itself after cycling the ignition after the vehicle sits for a minute or two. Of course the dealership is of absolutely ZERO help. I’ve already thrown a couple thousand dollars at this problem to no avail.
